Kitaguni Lodge was founded in 1970 by Mr. and Mrs. Miyazawa.
It is a lodge and restaurant quietly standing alongside the slopes of Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort in Otari Village, Nagano.
Not only during the ski season, but throughout the year, the lodge has welcomed guests as a place to experience the nature of Otari Village.
With 10 guest rooms and a dining room, it has been part of everyday life in this area for over 55 years.
Today, this legacy has been entrusted to us at WAT, who continue its story.
WAT operates cafés and bakeries mainly in urban areas, creating places where people can spend time comfortably and naturally.
At Kitaguni Lodge, we honor the spirit of hospitality cherished by the Miyazawa family and embrace the time that has gently flowed through this place, preserving it as faithfully as possible.
The ski slopes are just a short walk away, allowing true ski-in, ski-out access.
With the morning light and the scent of snow close at hand, the lodge transforms with the rhythm of the day—
serving as a café and restaurant during daytime, and as a lodge in the evening.
For our overnight guests, meals feature vegetables still grown in the family garden, seasonal pickles, and simple local dishes that have long been enjoyed in this region.
Here, a sense of nostalgia and quiet newness coexist naturally at the table.
During lunch hours, the space opens to skiers as “Marked.”
Marked began as a series of shops in Tokyo, in areas such as Honjo, Shibuya, and Ikejiri.
In the same way, we prepare bread and ice cream by hand and serve warm, comforting food that blends gently with the atmosphere of this place.
When the snow melts, guests may help with work in the family fields or go gathering wild mountain vegetables and mushrooms—
and the day’s harvest becomes part of the evening meal.
This farm-stay-like experience is another unique pleasure of Kitaguni Lodge.
Whether as a quiet place to pause and breathe during your journey,
or as a base for days spent facing the snow,
Kitaguni Lodge continues to gently refine its comfort—
holding close to its history, little by little, with care.
